The Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department will be changing its staffing patterns at some stations next month.
In a memo sent out earlier this week, county Fire Chief Marc Bashoor said that the changes were being made in response to an internal evaluation of the department's "overall operations and personnel deployment ... [including] ... current career staffing patterns for all facilities."
Bashoor went on to announce that career staffers will be redeployed from the following stations: Seat Pleasant (Company 808), Branchville (Company 811), Boulevard Heights (Company 817), and West Lanham Hills (Company 828).
As a consequence, staff will be added at the following stations: Hyattsville (Company 801), Capitol Heights (Company 805), Bowie-Northview (Company 816), Oxon Hill- Livingston Road (Company 821), Chapel Oaks (Company 838), West Lanhan Hills-Good Luck Road (Company 848), and Laurel Rescue Station (Company 849). The Capitol Heights, Bowie-Northview, Oxon Hill, and Chapel Oaks stations will have personnel employed 24 hours a day, while the other three will have personnel employed between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Also, new call volume transport units will be introduced at two stations: Allentown Road Ambulance (Company 832) and Chapel Oaks Ambulance (Company 838).
Bashoor said that the redeployments would "[balance] service provision to more residents than our current staffing model."
The changes will take effect March 4.
