A suspect was arrested Monday in the murder of a 68-year-old D.C. man who was fatally stabbed in his apartment over the weekend.
Police were called to the Mozart apartment building at 1630 Fuller Street NW shortly before 6:50 p.m. Saturday, where they found the body of Howard Venable, Jr.
David Jamal Wilson, 21, of Northwest D.C., has been charged with first-degree murder while armed, News4's Megan McGrath reported.
Police say that Wilson had been staying in the victim's apartment, but did not indicate what the relationship was between the two.
Residents at the Mozart Apartments, located in eastern Adams Morgan, said Venable was a friendly man who was dedicated to his granddaughter and often took care of her on the weekend.
"I don't know just who could do this do him," said Eleanor Triplett, who was a neighbor and friend of Venable. "He was a very nice man."
Another neighbor told McGrath, "He was a beautiful person... We're going to miss him. He really had a presence. When he came in, you felt like you were in the presence of somebody who really had something to offer. He'd have a genuine conversation with you, and it was nice."
