A man and a woman were taken to hospital Sunday afternoon after escaping a fire that damaged two townhouses in Silver Spring.
The fire broke out at around 2 p.m. in the 11900 block of Old Columbia Pike. Fire officials say that a man escaped by jumping from an upper floor of one of the townhouses. A woman was about to follow suit, but firefighters told her to stay where she was and rescued her with the help of a ladder. Four people in total were displaced by the blaze.
Neither the man nor the woman were believed to have life-threatening injuries. No damage estimate for either house was immediately available. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but investigators say that the house did not have any working smoke alarms.
