The body of a missing woman last seen three weeks ago was found in the water along the Kent Island shoreline on Saturday.
Authorities received a 911 call at around 3:30 p.m. Saturday from a fisherman who said that he was fishing on a pier when he saw a body in the water near the Stevensville shore. The body of an adult woman was recovered at around 6 p.m. and transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's office in Baltimore for further tests. On Sunday, an autopsy confirmed the body is that of Robin Pope, 51, of Stevensville.
Pope was reported missing by her husband, Wayne Pope Jr., early on the morning of March 2. Pope had gone to the couple's former home on Beach Road in Stevensville to pick up some belongings. Wayne Pope briefly left the house and returned to find his wife's car in the driveway, but no sign of the woman. The couple had been separated since December.
Wayne Pope's dog, a Great Dane, was discovered dead by a nearby pier with "obvious trauma to the upper torso," according to authorities. Robin Pope's keys, purse, and credit cards were found in her car, as was an undisclosed amount of cash.
Investigators have notified Wayne Pope Jr. as well as Robin Pope's daughters of the recovery of a body. The cause and nature of Robin Pope's disappearance remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Maryland State Police at (410) 758-1101.
