A fire caused heavy damage to an Oxon Hill church early Tuesday morning.
According to the Prince George's County Fire Department, the First Wesleyan Church of Oxon Hill sustained an estimated $100,000 worth of damage as a result of the blaze, which broke out shortly before 7:30 a.m.
Authorities say that two interior areas of the one-story building were on fire when responders arrived. A second alarm was initially sounded, but the initial alarm of firefighters extinguished the blaze after approximately 25 minutes. No injuries occurred. The fire eventually spread to the building's roof before it was put out.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Authorities have notified the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, as is common after any fire at a house of worship.
