The Washington Monument is ready for repair.
On Friday afternoon, the last piece of scaffolding was put in place.
The monument has been off limits to tourists since the earthquake in 2011.
Engineers detailed the damage by rappelling down the 555-foot structure.
Repair crews spent the past few months putting up the scaffolding.
Despite its worldwide recognition, there were budget problems until a private citizen donated half of the cost of repairs.
The $15 million project is expected to be completed sometime next year.
