It'll be a race to the top as the freshman class at the Naval Academy climb the Herndon Monument Monday.
The class, better known as plebes, will form a human pyramid to reach the top of the greased-up monument. Per tradition, the sailor who reaches the top will replace the plebe "dixie cup hat" atop the obelisk with an upperclassman's hat.
The event, which begins at 1:30 p.m., is open to the public.
But you could be in for a wait -- the longest attempt took more than four hours. According to the Naval Academy, the fastest time on record is one minute and 30 seconds, completed in 1969.
