A protester had taken up a position up a tree on the National Mall hours before President Barack Obama's second inauguration ceremony.
Authorities say the protester managed to climb the tree near the intersection of 1st Street and Maryland Avenue, Southwest, near the National Museum of the American Indian. Eyewitnesses estimated that the protester was between 30 and 40 feet above the ground.
It is not clear how long the protester had been in that position, nor was it clear what was being protested.
